NY Yankees - In the Beginning

The Yankees actually began play in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. The franchise moved to New York City borough of the Bronx in 1903 and began playing as the New York Highlanders. It wasn't until 1913 that the team officially took on the nickname Yankees. Beginning in 1923, New York Yankees tickets were sold for homes games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

Legends in the Making

Between 1923 and 2008, Yankee Stadium served as the home of the franchise and would become one of the most hallowed grounds in all of sport. Known as the "House that Ruth Built," Yankee Stadium saw some of the greatest players in baseball wear the pinstripes of the Yankees over the decades. Each season, New York Yankees tickets would sell out to anxious fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Roger Maris.

A New Home

In 2009, the Yankees moved across the street to a brand new version of Yankee Stadium that kept many of the architectural hallmarks of the club's longtime home. The modern Yankee Stadium has seating for 50,291 New York Yankee ticket holders and became the most expensive baseball stadium in the United States when it was completed with a price tag of $1.5 billion.

Over the course of 112 seasons of baseball, the New York Yankees have established a track record of excellences. Those lucky enough to hold New York Yankees tickets over the years have seen the franchise set Major League Baseball records for division titles (18), AL Pennants (40), and World Series titles (27). No other club has come close to matching the success or wealth of the Yankees, who were valued by Forbes in 2013 at $2.3 billion. That makes the Yankees the fourth most valuable sports franchise in the world and most valuable in the United States.

As the boys of summer return to the field in Spring Training, it is time for New York Yankees fans to prepare for the upcoming 2014 season. The Yankees will begin pursuit of a record 28th  World Series title after spending more some $400 million in free agency this offseason on talent like catcher Brian McCann, outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, and starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

In order to capture another World Series title, the Yankees will have to overcome their bitter AL East rival Boston Red Sox. Last season, the Red Sox captured a third World Series title since the 2004 season and will look to defend their crown against the hated Yankees.
